When talking about landscaping for Christmas, most folks will be considering the role of certain plants in the Winter garden. A lot of evergreens like the Holly for instance, symbolize the Christmas season while adding color to the landscaping all Winter long. They’re also a common material for making wreaths and other holiday home decorations. Many other plants that produce red berries, again like the Holly, also can create a Christmas atmosphere throughout the Winter landscape.
While certain types of plants are necessary for design structure and Winter interest in landscaping, this article doesn’t focus on the actual landscaping structure itself. What this article addresses first is the folks that go all out to decorate their yard and home for the holidays. It may be practical for these people to factor decorating, Christmas decorations, and lighting into their landscaping designs and ideas. This simply means to create electrical access and junctions throughout the whole landscape.
A lot of the modern Christmas yard decorations and light displays use a lot of electricity because they’re so detailed and involved. From just a few decorations and lights to huge computerized visual displays of lights that spread out over the whole yard. The amount of power that these lighting displays need to run may be more than the home has to offer. The majority of landscaping plans don’t ever consider christmas yard decorations or installing electrical access close to where its needed to operate them. Strategically placed throughout the landscaping.
Placing electrical outlets throughout your yard and landscaping can also be used for more than just Christmas decorations. And while we most landscaping plans consider low voltage lights in the landscape, very few people ever consider placing electrical outlets in the yard.
So once decided as a consideration for your landscaping plan, electrical outlets, lines, and anything house current has to be installed by professionals. There’s no tolerance for error when working with electricity. The electrical network designed to power the decorations should have its own dedicated circuit. This way, there should be plenty of power for the entire decorating system network. And if anything malfunctions with the lights electrical system, it can be worked on by itself without turning off the house electricity.
One more thing to think about when adding electicity to your yard and gardens is how visible will the receptacles be. Few things look worse in a well groomed yard. If flower and planting beds are in the landscaping plan, electrical outlets can easily be hidden among shrubs, groundcovers, and other plants in the bed areas. Recepticals and junctions can also be placed in special weatherproof juction boxes mounted in flower beds or even directly into the lawn. Use them when they’re needed. They stay hidden when they’re not. And they’re not affected by watering, mowing, or bad weather.
Again, every landscape or garden design is created different and should have considerations according to the wants and needs of the owner. Decorating for Christmas and other holidays like Halloween is a big event for a lot of people. Designing a dedicated electrical system for decorations into their landscaping will be a true convenience when it’s time to decorate the yard for the holidays.
